Team DGRD Increases Prize for the 2025 Best Appearing Car Award!
KNOXVILLE, Iowa (June 10, 2025) – The stakes just got higher for one of the Knoxville Nationals’ most anticipated off-track honors. Dennis and Betty Gainey of Team DGRD have doubled the prize purse for the 2025 Team DGRD Best Appearing Car Award at the 64th NOS Energy Drink Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s.
This year’s award will feature a total payout of $5,000, with $2,500 going to the winning team, $1,500 for second place, and $1,000 for third.
“This award originated back in 1989, and we’re always excited to see the pride race teams take in their cars when they show up to the Knoxville Nationals,” said Knoxville Raceway General Manager Jason Reed. “To have passionate partners like Dennis and Betty Gainey supporting this award in such a generous way is fantastic. It continues a tradition that both fans and teams have come to love, and the added prize money is a great bonus for the teams.”
“Being part of the biggest sprint car event in the world is truly an honor,” said Dennis Gainey. “This award holds a lot of personal meaning for me. As a fan of the sport, it’s exciting to see how much effort teams put in each year to compete for it. Supporting race teams financially is a privilege—and hopefully, one day, one of my own cars will be lucky enough to take it home.”
The Team DGRD Best Appearing Car Award is determined by a panel of 16 to 20 individuals composed of track and series officials, photographers, videographers, and racing media. Brent Kaeding was the first recipient of the award in 1989, while last year’s honors went to the KCP Racing #18 team driven by Giovanni Scelzi.
The award celebrates the visual presentation and pride teams put into their cars for sprint car racing’s biggest stage. With increased prizes in 2025, the competition is expected to be tougher—and more stylish—than ever.
