Knoxville Practice Night Sees 27 Sprinters

Twenty-seven cars representing all three sprint car classes practiced Saturday night at the Knoxville Raceway. Chilly temps and a stiff wind didn’t slow down the contingent of drivers. Five 410’s, eight 360’s and fourteen 305’s were on hand. A mix of rookies and veterans took their laps on the famous half-mile in anticipation of the season opener next Saturday, April 16.

Newcomers included Jake Bubak in the 410 class. The son of former World of Outlaws regular, Rich Bubak intends on looked smooth in his first 410 outing on the speedway in the Lucas Oil #1B. Jake was joined in 410 practice by Craig Dollansky, Dakota Hendrickson (now in the VanderEcken #10), AJ Moeller and Dustin Selvage. Dollansky was the fastest clocked at 15.3 seconds.

Rob Weuve was the lone rookie in the 360 class. The son of veteran Bob Weuve was joined by veterans Jon Agan, John Anderson, Jamie Ball, Joe Beaver, Calvin Landis, Matt Moro and Tony Shilling. Moro clocked in at 15.905.

AJ Johnson, a former modified driver, competed a few times in the midgets in Illinois last season. He caught the open wheel bug and is ready to take on the 305 class at Knoxville in his #8J. After only competing one night in 2015, Dan Henning returns aboard his #41H. He credits Jeff Woodruff for pointing him in the right direction, and is hoping this year goes and lot different for him. Joining AJ and Dan in the 305’s on Saturday night were Mitchell Alexander, Cody Ambers, Christian Bowman, Brad Comegys, Mike Dapra, McKenna Haase, Josh Jones, Corey Kautz, Devin Kline, Lee Patterson, Trevor Smith and Chris Walraven. Walraven was fastest at 17.600.

Join us next Saturday night, April 16 for the Lucas Oil Knoxville Championship Cup Series season opener and Pella Motors Night. For more information on the Knoxville Raceway, visit us online at www.KnoxvilleRaceway.com!
