2016 was Nate’s eleventh full season competing at Knoxville and he turned in another top five performance, grabbing his fifth career win here. In 2015, his championship hopes were damaged by a nasty crash midseason, but he ended up second in the point race. Last season was the fifth time in a row, that the 360 veteran finished in the top five in points. The Van Haaften Racing #3 team was named 360 Owner of the Year.
Nate's first Knoxville 360 win came in 2011 and he now has a total of four. Nate was the “Junior Fan Club Driver of the Year” in 2010, and was named “Most Improved” in the 360 class after the 2011 season.
Before getting into the sprint cars, Nate’s success in go-karts included consecutive point championships at the Newton Kart Klub in Open Kage Kart and Junior Kage Kart classes. He also took multiple IKF season point championships and recorded multiple runner-up finishes in IKF and KART Nationals events.
