National Sprint Car Hall of Fame Inductee, Doug Clark of Sioux Falls, SD, has been named Honorary Starter for the Hy-Vee PERKS 250 NASCAR Xfinity Series Race, taking place at Iowa Speedway on Saturday, June 15th.

Clark flagged his first race at Knoxville Raceway in 1981, then in 1983 joined the Knoxville Raceway staff and became the head flagman until he retired in 2019, turning the flags over to his son Justin. Prior to Knoxville Raceway, Doug flagged at Huset's Speedway where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame there in 2012. He was inducted into the Knoxville Raceway and NSCHoF in 2016.

Laughingly, Clark expressed his desire to be considered for a possible starter role recently to Lori Cutter, with Champion Race Promotions, for one of the upcoming Iowa Speedway events and wondered if Cutter had any connections at Iowa Speedway that she could connect with, to see if this was even possible.

It just so happened that Cutter had some connections at Hy-Vee and within hours of sending off a note of recommendation with Clark's esteemed biography as a Hall of Fame flagger, Jessica Cooley with Hy-Vee Sports Marketing reached back out and offered the Honorary Starter position to Clark. Obviously, Clark is excited and honored about this opportunity!

“Hy-Vee is thrilled to be part of NASCAR‘s return to Iowa Speedway,” said Matt Nickell, vice president of sports marketing for Hy-Vee. “This is a natural partnership for us as there is a strong fan base for both NASCAR and NTT INDYCAR SERIES racing in Iowa.”

The Hy-Vee PERKS 250 is the second of three races scheduled for the historic NASCAR weekend at Iowa Speedway, June 14-16. The weekend begins with the ARCA Menards Series race on Friday, June 14, and continues Saturday with the Hy-Vee PERKS 250, the first NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Iowa Speedway since 2019, followed by the inaugural NASCAR Cup Series, Iowa Corn 350 powered by Ethanol on Sunday, June 16.
