KNOXVILLE, Iowa — The 25th annual SPEED SPORT Challenge will be run Aug. 10 at Knoxville Raceway during the 58th running of the 5-hour ENERGY Knoxville Nationals presented by Casey’s General Store.

The race pits the best sprint car drivers from around the world in a 20-lap battle at the historic half-mile dirt track for a $10,000 winner’s check and the possibility of earning the 25th starting spot in Knoxville Nationals A-main.

American drivers will only have one chance to qualify for the SPEED SPORT Challenge this year, with that opportunity coming at Australia’s biggest sprint car race. The 46th annual South West Conveyancing Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic will be run Jan. 19-21 at Premier Speedway in Warrnambool, Australia.

U.S.-based sprint car racers must participate in the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic in order to compete in the SPEED SPORT Challenge, which will be run on Friday night during the 5-hour ENERGY Knoxville Nationals.

Any international driver who enters this year’s Knoxville Nationals will be eligible to compete in the SPEED SPORT Challenge.

Former winners of the SPEED SPORT Challenge, which was first run in 1994 are Max Dumesny, Skip Jackson, Danny Smith, Randy Hannagan, Danny Lasoski, Donny Schatz, Travis Rilat, Daryn Pittman, Brooke Tatnell, Dean Jacobs, Kerry Madsen, Lynton Jeffrey, Craig Dollansky, Lucas Wolfe, Kraig Kinser and Jason Johnson.

While more American drivers are expected to enter the $30,000-to-win Grand Annual, those who have already filed entries are Parker Price-Miller, Cory Eliason, Terry McCarl, Tim Kaeding, Buddy Kofoid, Jason Johnson, Geoff Ensign, Lawrance Kirkham and Dominic Scelzi.

Tickets for the Knoxville Nationals and the SPEED SPORT Challenge are available from knoxvilleraceway.com or by calling the ticket office 641-842-5431.
