Danny Lasoski on Top Again in $5,000 Mid-Season Championship at Knoxville!
by Bill Wright

Knoxville, IA, June 27, 2015 – Danny Lasoski registered win number three of the season at the Knoxville Raceway and #105 in his career on Saturday night. The victory was also his third FVP National Sprint League win of 2015. The victory allowed him to stay on top of the point standings at both Knoxville and with the NSL, and it was worth $5,000 aboard the Big Game Motorsports #2. Justin Henderson was dominant in 360 action, registering his second win of the year in that class. Devin Kline topped the 305 class for the third time this season, and sixth time in his career.

Henderson shot out to an early lead in the 25-lap 410 feature ahead of Ian Madsen and Lasoski. Rubber developed early in turn two, and Lasoski shot by Madsen on lap six. A lap later, Henderson was his victim in the same spot on the track.

Madsen tried to shoot inside Henderson for second in turn three, hit the brakes, and got over the infield berm when the two cars couldn’t fit in one spot. Madsen’s machine veered backwards across the track and struck the turn three wall, putting an end to his night.

Lasoski led the field back to green flag racing ahead of Henderson, Brooke Tatnell, Bronson Maeschen and Brian Brown. The top five would not change the rest of the way as a heavy layer of rubber encircled the half-mile on an uncharacteristic track at Knoxville. The only remaining caution came for Tasker Phillips, who blew his right rear with seven to go.

Lasoski carried out his win ahead of Henderson, Tatnell, Maeschen and Brown. Terry McCarl, Craig Dollansky, Dusty Zomer, Lynton Jeffrey and Davey Heskin rounded out the top ten. Henderson set quick time, while Bill Balog, Ryan Bunton, Josh Baughman and Dustin Selvage were heat winners. Dollansky won the B.

“We knew he was going to be tough,” said Lasoski of the pole-sitter Henderson in Victory Lane. “My hat’s off to (crew chief) Guy Forbrook. He had this thing figured out tonight. We have a good racecar, but when August (Knoxville Nationals) comes the big boys are coming to town and we want to be ready.”

Henderson was strong all night long in the 360 class. He shot out from his pole position in the 20-lap feature, while Jon Agan and Calvin Landis gave chase. While the lead trio separated themselves, there was great racing from fourth through eighth between Tony Shilling, Jamie Ball, Jonathan Cornell, Matt Moro and Clint Garner.

On lap nine, Shilling reeled in Landis in traffic and took over the third spot, while Cornell and Garner followed him into fourth and fifth a lap later. With eleven laps in the books, Sawyer Phillips spun, bringing about a caution. Henderson led Agan, Shilling, Cornell and Garner back to green flag racing.

Henderson would pull away again in the BDS Motorsports #1 with Agan, Shilling, Cornell and Garner following him to the checkers. Landis, Dakota Hendrickson, Moro, Ball and Ricky Montgomery completed the top ten. Joe Beaver was the hard-charger, driving from 19th to 11th after flipping in his heat race. Keoni Texeira also crashed hard completing his heat race. He was uninjured, but done for the night. Henderson set quick time, while Nate Van Haaften, Montgomery and Hendrickson won heat races.

“The car felt really good and I felt good,” said Henderson in Victory Lane. “We have some friends from Pennsylvania here too, and we’re glad we put on a show for them.”

Chris Walraven led early in the 15-lap 305 main event ahead of Devin Kline and Stacey Alexander. Alexander shot by Kline for second on lap four. One lap later, Walraven would lose his right rear tire, giving the lead to Alexander. That would be very brief, and Kline would ride the cushion to the lead on the restart and never look back.

A spin by Mark Johnson with six laps recorded set up a restart that saw Kade Higday got from fifth to third. He would ride around Alexander into second on lap ten. He appeared to be playing with fire, jumping the cushion on several occasions. He would never catch Kline, but he would hold onto the runner-up spot.

Following Kline and Higday across the line were Alexander, Kevin Hetrick and Mike Mayberry. Christian Bowman, Brad Comegys, Matthew Stelzer, Jeff Wilke and Trevor Smith rounded out the top ten. Kline set quick time on the night, and Higday, Joe Simbro and Stacey Alexander won the heats.

“This gets us used to other track conditions,” said Kline of the dry-slick surface. “It was fun. We were sliding all over the place. We had one shot at it on that restart, and we went for it.”

Join us next Saturday night, July 4, for Aspen Aire Night! It will again feature the FVP National Sprint League! It will also be Twin Features Night for the 360 class! For more information on Knoxville Raceway, visit www.KnoxvilleRaceway.com!
