Report from John McCoy and the Knoxville Raceway Race Committee!
Saturday, December 20, 2014
Press Release: Knoxville Raceway
John McCoy, Race Director

At a meeting Thursday December 18th, the Knoxville Raceway Race Committee made some changes to the rules package concerning ASCS heads in the 360 class. The changes are being made to follow the changes passed down from the ASCS Series Directors at the Performance Racing Industry show in Indianapolis. It was the feeling of the Committee that it would only add to further issues down the road for the 360 class if engine changes became different from one group to another. The changes will be posted in the 2015 rules.

The committee did not adopt the 360 aluminum block change at this meeting. It was decided to hold off on that until some weight issues could be more thoroughly discussed.

In regards to weight the committee decided to add an additional 25lbs to the minimum weight for the 360 class bringing the weight for the class at Knoxville Raceway to 1500 lbs. with driver. This rule will go into effect for the entire 2015 racing season. A grace period may be instituted for the first couple of weeks. More information will be made available later regarding the timing of the weight rule change.

Additional items discussed and approved were as follows:

Minimum age to compete in the sprint car classes is raised back to 16 due to changes in the insurance industry for the half mile tracks.

A Main lap counts were raised to 15 in the 305’s, 18 in the 360’s and 25 for 6 select shows in the 410’s. All other regular season shows will be 20 laps in the 410’s. Mid-season and season championship lap counts will be also raised in all classes. (15, 20, 25)

The top two B Feature transfer cars will get their time spots back in the A Main, outside the invert starting no better than 9th.

Additional race dates requested after the schedule had become final were not approved.

Adding an additional tire for the right rear in the 410 class was not approved.

Purse changes were made to the 360 and 410 classes.
