A great crowd filed in to the Robertson Holden International Speedway on Monday night to witness plenty of wheel-to-wheel action for Round 2 of the Porter Hire International Sprint Car Series. American Jonathan Allard nearly used up his machine to finish second to Aussie Robbie Farr, with New Zealand’s Daniel Eggleton in third place. Kraig Kinser finished third in his heat race but mechanical problems sidelined his team and they were unable to start the feature. Two-time Australian National Champion James McFadden, who finished second on Saturday at Auckland, was unable to start the feature after a crash in his heat race.

The feature was plagued by a number of restarts, most notably for an early caution after Stephen Taylor and James McFadden crashed into the wall on the front stretch, taking both competitors out of the race. When the feature finally started, Robbie Farr was outside row one, holding the high line to emerge in front of Allard. Late in the race, Farr made contact with a lapped car, damaging his front wing and the lapped car to bring out the yellow, and giving Allard a chance at the end. Farr survived with the damaged car and held off Allard over the closing laps to take the win as the American bounced off the wall a few times in desperation.

Heat race winners on Monday night were Jamie Duff, Jonathan Allard, Daniel Rogers, and Farr.

Finish, 25 laps: 1. Robbie Farr, 2. Jonathan Allard, 3. Daniel Eggleton, 4. Dean Brindle, 5. Jamie McDonald, 6. Michael Pickens, 7. Daniel Rogers, 8. Skinny Colson, 9. Tony Uhlenberg, 10. Stephen Taylor, 11. Greg Pickerill, 12. Wade Savage, 13. Jamie Larsen, 14. Jamie Duff, 15. Kraig Kinser, 16. James McFadden.

The third and final round of the Porter Hire International Sprint Car Series will be held at Auckland’s Western Spring Speedway on Saturday, Dec. 13 and will be available for PPV online at www.nzspeedway.com.

The final SPEED SPORT Knoxville World Challenge international qualifier will take place January 23-25 when Premier Speedway in Warrnambool, Victoria, Australia, hosts the 43rd Lucas Oil Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic. The winner will earn $30,000, with twin feature $10,000-to-win Australia/America Challenge Cup preliminary night mains, both presented by Oval Express. Many American racers are expected to converge on this popular seaside city for Australia’s version of the Knoxville Nationals. American’s already entered for the Classic are Brad Sweet, Danny Holtgraver, Jac Haudenschild, Kyle Hirst, Tim Kaeding, and Trey Starks.
